The temperature and the humidity in these locations are less stable. Damage is also possible by opening a door or a window.
To maintain a constant humidity level, we advise you to use a humidifier during winter, when there is less humidity, in spring and summer use a dehumidifier, as the humidity level rises.
We recommend that you do not put the instrument in the basement or garage or any place where the temperature between 18-23 ° C and 40-60% humidity is not guaranteed.
Near the underfloor heating we advise you to put an anti-thermal foil under the instrument.
If possible, place the piano in a room where your pets do not have access.

Take care of the exterior of the instrument

Wipe the dust off the surface of the piano regularly with a clean soft cloth. You can also use a cleaner for wood surfaces, which should not be aggressive.
When not using the instrument, it is recommended that the piano cover and the key cover is closed. This prevents dust from accumulating between the keys and in the string and prevents the other contaminants from reaching the insides, such as the pet’s hair.
You can also cover the entire piano with a cover. This will also protect exterior of the instrument, not only from dust but also from damages.

You can read how to properly clean your instrument on our BLOG.

Don’t put things on your instrument

Putting different objects on your instrument can scratch the surface. Do not place flowers on the piano – when watering these flowers, the liquid can spill and it can cause a great damage.
Also, never use your piano as a base for food or drink. Spilled liquid can damage the piano wood and if the liquid is spilled inside the piano it can cause irreparable damage.
If your piano is often used for disposal of things for you or your guest, consider moving it to a more isolated area.

Do not touch the inside of the piano

Mechanics, strings, soundboard and other interior components should be in the service of a qualified piano technician. Do not repair the piano by yourself, because you may cause more damage (if you touch the strings, they can rust).

Do not move the instrument yourself

Hire a professional team to move the piano. Moving the piano on your own can be very damaging to yourself, you can also damage your piano or your home (the floor and other furniture). The weight of the piano is between 200 and 400kg, and the weight of the grand piano can be up to 800kg. When moving instruments, we use a special machine called pianoplan, which makes it easier to move it up the stairs. For the purpose of transporting your instrument from one place to another, we use a van for this purpose, in which we can attach the instrument so it cannot damage and it has a constant temperature even in the cargo compartment during transportation, so that your instrument does not go out of tune during transport.

Regular tuning and service

How many times you need to tune your instrument depends on how you play it. Whether you play a lot or less, the piano needs to be tuned at least once a year. Playing a piano that is not tuned increases the wear and tear of the instrument.
In the first year in the new environment you may notice that the instrument can go out of tune quickly as it is adjusting to conditions in your home (humidity and temperature).

Play your piano regularly

Playing the piano regularly keeps the moving parts in good condition. If you play your instrument on a regular basis you will quickly notice if any problems begin to emerge. Practicing regularly will also develop your progress very quickly. Try playing the piano at least once a week.

If you want your instrument to be of high quality for a longer time and to extend its life you should place it in suitable conditions and make sure that it is serviced and tuned regularly.
