The smaller piano with the strings turned vertically is called PIANINO. The word PIANO (piano) is a shortened form of Pianoforte (PF), the Italian word for instrument. The musical terms “piano” and “forte” mean “quiet” and “loud” and refer to changes in the volume of sound produced by the instrument in response to the pianist’s touch.
