Shigeru Kawai
Shigeru piano is much more than an intelligent use of material, work and design. It is an art form that was born not from the head but from the heart.
When Shigeru Kawai succeeded the company’s founder, Koichi Kawai, he had a dream to build the best grand pianos. The dream not only represented his origins but also his fate – an unwavering quest for perfection. In Shigeru Kawai’s piano, you will not only see his work and his love – but also his life.
From the original design, the choice of the finest materials, to the hand-crafted piano technique, each Shigeru piano is a work of uncompromising craftsmanship, a symbol of unlimited dedication – a deep expression of pride and honor. And those who own a Shigeru piano know that they have not only own an instrument but a partner in the musical pursuit of dreams.
In 1980, Shigeru completed one of his greatest achievements – the Ryuyo Piano Factory. Today, Ryuyo is not only a place for production, but also a place for innovation. Shigeru Kawai Research and Development Lab in Ryuyo stands as a tribute to the founder’s vision of continued excellence and employs master piano artists dedicated to the continued advancement of piano art.
After more than 50 years of intense work, Shiger wanted to leave his personal legacy to the world of pianos. In 2000, he introduced a unique line of instruments that would bear his name. Although the use of his first and last name in Japan is extremely rare because of the incredible burden of individual responsibility, he opened these instruments as the grand piano of Shigeru Kawai – a lasting symbol of his ardent passion for the piano and his lifelong career.
